VISIT SEAL ISLAND
An hour on the water is always a good time! You will get to see the sea birds and the grey seals on Seal Island. Viewing these graceful animals in their natural habitat is a memorable experience. Chysauster ancient village is a ruin of a late Iron age settlement that was inhabited from about 100 BC to the third century by the Dumnonii tribe before being abandoned. This type of settlement is only seen in the Land’s End area and the Isles of Scilly.
CARN BREA SETTLEMENT
This is one of the most famous Neolithic settlements in the area, and it dates from around 3900BC. The site was used for thousands of years, and archeological digs have found everything from Neolithic remains to golden Celtic coins, Bronze Age axes, Roman coins. The area has a lot of legends associated with it. St. Euny’s well is also in this area and may have have healing waters.
A two hour and fifteen minute train ride from St. Ives is the birthplace of King Arthur, Tintagel castle. For beauty, romance, and legend, and inspiration, you will find no greater muse. The castle ruins that currently occupy the coastline are from the 13th century; however, there is evidence of an older settlement that may convince you that King Arthur was a real person.If you venture here, you can’t miss Merlin’s cave down by the water’s edge.
Any Doc Martin fans in the house? Port Isaac is the quaint fishing village where that television show was shot. If you’re into photography, you’ll be delighted. The town is quite photogenic.
PARADISE PARK WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
If you like adorable animals, this is your spot! There are loads of exotic birds, red pandas, otters, as well as farm animals.
If you love the surf and sand, Hayle Beach is for you. There are 3 miles of sand! You can rent a wet suit and board if that’s more your speed. They say that the best Cornish pasties are made here, too!
